fashionforfashiondolls.com Goes Live Today: The Journey of Creating Couture for Dolls!  Today is a very special day! After 18 months of creativity, crocheting, and crafting, I am beyond excited to announce that FashionforFashionDolls.com is officially live!It has been a long journey filled with yarn, inspiration, and the joy of creating something unique and fun. What began as a simple pandemic project—making outfits for my granddaughter's Barbie dolls—has blossomed into a full-fledged website, complete with my very own Couture Crochet Fashion Line for fashion dolls.

How It All Began

During the pandemic, like many of us, I found myself with extra time at home. I started by knitting and then transitioned to crocheting outfits for my granddaughter’s beloved Barbie. To my delight, she loved the little clothes, and so did her friends! What began as a simple way to pass the time quickly grew into a passion, and before long, I was designing more and more elaborate outfits.

You can actually see my granddaughter in a video on the homepage, recorded nearly two years ago, where she explains one of the outfits in her own words. It’s heartwarming to think about how far we’ve come since then. And although she doesn’t know it yet, today she will be pressing the "PUBLISH" button on my website to make it official! It feels only fitting since she has been such a big help throughout this journey, offering insights into what children of her age (and younger) love.

The Creative Process

The best part of this entire adventure has been the creative process itself. I love every second of it—selecting different yarns, colours, and textures and waiting for inspiration to strike. I’m proud to say I’ve found an amazing yarn supplier in the Netherlands, which is a bit of a coincidence since I’m Dutch myself! Even though I've lived in Ireland for nearly 45 years, this connection back to my roots has been a beautiful, almost surreal experience.

I don’t usually start with a pattern or a drawing—there’s just something magical about sitting down with my collection of yarns and seeing where my imagination takes me. Of course, my early attempts were more for fun than anything else. But with each new creation, I’ve improved, and today, I am proud to offer professional-quality outfits that I truly believe are something special.

What You’ll Find on FashionforFashionDolls.com

On launch day, we have a total of 158 unique outfits ready to go! And yes, I have 158 fashion dolls at home, each dressed in one of these creations. Every one of them has been photographed and categorized on the website under what I call the Couture Crochet Fashion Line. You’ll find sections for all kinds of outfits: Tango Dresses, Cocktail Dresses, and much more. Many outfits are available in different colours, so there’s something for everyone.

When you buy one of my Couture Crochet outfits, it’s not just the clothes you’re getting. Each purchase comes with the doll, the outfit, and accessories like shoes, wraps, hats, or hairpieces, so your fashion doll is complete from head to toe.

Expanding the Vision

But there’s more! While my crocheted dresses are my personal vision of fashion—colours and textures I love—I realized that variety is key. So, after a lot of research and conversations with my now 7-year-old granddaughter, we decided to add a High Street Fashion Line to the website. These outfits offer a fun, casual, and trendy vibe, complementing the more elaborate crochet designs. You can mix and match pieces between the two lines to create your own style!

We didn’t stop there. A girl can’t go far without the perfect pair of shoes, right? Enter our shoe shop: "Glass Slippers", (they are Pink of course!!) named after my granddaughter’s famous line from her video, "Pink, who doesn’t like pink?" We’ve adopted that as our company motto! The shop offers 52 different types of shoes, from dancing shoes to walking boots, most of which come in various colors.

The Extras: Accessories and More

We didn’t just stop at outfits and shoes. What is a fashion doll without accessories? From handbags to jewellery, sunglasses, and even sports equipment, we’ve got everything a doll could need. And because every doll needs a best friend, we’ve added pets to the collection—dogs and cats, of course!

Yet, through it all, he has been my unwavering support, never questioning, never complaining. He believes in me and takes pride in what I’ve accomplished.
